Practice the sequence you already learned for “Write a condition report before an art loan” until the order feels automatic. Practice AAM / ASTM condition-reporting order from registrar training. The crate is not closed until photographs, existing damage, and the courier notes are on the report.
- Photograph the work in raking light.
- Photograph the work in normal light.
- Note existing cracks, losses, and prior repairs on the diagram.
- Record frame, glazing, and hardware condition.
- Agree the report with the incoming or outgoing registrar.
- Pack only after both parties sign.
- Do not ‘touch up’ a loss before the report is written.
