Practice the sequence you already learned for “Write a condition report before an art loan” until the order feels automatic. Practice AAM / ASTM condition-reporting order from registrar training. The crate is not closed until photographs, existing damage, and the courier notes are on the report.

  1. Photograph the work in raking light.
  2. Photograph the work in normal light.
  3. Note existing cracks, losses, and prior repairs on the diagram.
  4. Record frame, glazing, and hardware condition.
  5. Agree the report with the incoming or outgoing registrar.
  6. Pack only after both parties sign.
  7. Do not ‘touch up’ a loss before the report is written.
