Test and replace smoke alarms to NFPA 72

Reinforce NFPA 72 household order from fire-prevention training. A chirping alarm is not ‘fixed’ with a battery in a unit past its replacement date.

1. Test each alarm monthly with the test button.
2. Replace batteries on the taught schedule if the unit is not sealed.
3. Read the manufacture date; replace the unit at the required age.
4. Install the new unit on each level and outside sleeping rooms.
5. Test again after installation.
6. Do not disable an alarm for cooking smoke; move or hush as designed.
