Stop a chlorine-cylinder leak at a treatment plant

Reinforce the Chlorine Institute Kit A/B order. Evacuate and approach from upwind, orient the cylinder so gas not liquid escapes, and do not spray water on the leak.

1. Evacuate occupants upwind or crosswind.
2. Don the supplied-air or SCBA ensemble before approaching.
3. Approach from upwind with Emergency Kit A or B.
4. Orient the cylinder so gas, not liquid, escapes.
5. Apply the matching kit device to the leak.
6. Do not spray water on the leak.
7. Notify the LEPC / fire department and the taught agency.
8. Do not return the cylinder to service; isolate it for the supplier.
