Standardize a titrant before a QC assay

Practice the sequence you already learned for “Standardize a titrant before a QC assay” until the order feels automatic. Drill USP <541> titrant-standardization order. Sample assays are not started until the primary standard is dried, replicates are titrated, and the factor is within the method limit.

  1. Dry the required primary standard as the method says.
  2. Weigh the primary standard.
  3. Titrate the replicates specified.
  4. Calculate the normality or molarity factor.
  5. Compare to the previous factor and the limit.
  6. Label the bottle with the new factor and date.
  7. Do not use an expired factor because ‘it is close enough.’
