Spot a one-rep-max attempt

Practice the sequence you already learned for “Spot a one-rep-max attempt” until the order feels automatic. Drill NSCA spotting order from strength-coach training. The bar is not loaded to the attempt until warm-up jumps, collars, and the spotter’s grip are set.

  1. Confirm the lifter’s plan, rack height, and failed-rep command.
  2. Complete the warm-up jumps. Do not jump straight to the max.
  3. Load the bar evenly.
  4. Collar the bar.
  5. Set a mixed or the taught spotter grip.
  6. Set a stable stance.
  7. Take the bar only if the lifter fails or calls for it.
  8. Do not bounce the bar off the chest.
  9. Do not dump plates without collars.
