Secure cargo to FMCSA cargo-securement rules

Reinforce the 49 CFR 393 / 392.9 securement order from commercial-driver training. The vehicle is not moved until aggregate WLL and tie-down count are met.

  1. Determine article weight.
  2. Confirm aggregate working-load limit is at least half the cargo weight.
  3. Select undamaged tie-downs rated for that limit.
  4. Apply the minimum number of tie-downs for the article length and weight.
  5. Install edge protection where a tie-down would be cut or abraded.
  6. Confirm the article cannot shift forward, rearward, or laterally.
  7. Recheck securement within the first 50 miles.
  8. Recheck again every 3 hours or 150 miles, and at each duty-status change.
  9. Do not move the vehicle if a tie-down is damaged or short of WLL.
