Run an avalanche companion rescue
Practice the sequence you already learned for “Run an avalanche companion rescue” until the order feels automatic. Practice AIARE companion-rescue order from avalanche training. Probing is not started until the transceiver search has a close bracket, and the burial is not left to get more help first.
- Stop the group out of the slide path.
- Designate a leader.
- Call for help. Do not leave the site.
- Switch all transceivers to receive.
- Signal-search the debris for a hit.
- Complete the coarse search.
- Fine-search to a close bracket.
- Probe in the taught pattern until you hit the target.
- Leave the probe in place.
- Dig from downhill toward the probe.
- Clear the airway first.
- Do not abandon a viable burial to ski out for help before the companion search is done.
