Run a lifeguard EAP for an active drowning

Practice the sequence you already learned for “Run a lifeguard EAP for an active drowning” until the order feels automatic. Drill the Ellis / Red Cross EAP order from lifeguard training. The secondary guard covers the zone before the primary leaves the stand for the water.

  1. Activate the EAP with the taught signal as soon as the victim is recognized.
  2. Point to the victim so the covering guard can take the zone.
  3. Confirm the covering guard has the zone before you leave the stand if staffing requires it.
  4. Enter with the appropriate rescue equipment.
  5. Perform the in-water rescue.
  6. Remove the victim from the water.
  7. Begin the trained assessment on deck.
  8. Give CPR or other trained care as indicated.
  9. Transfer care to EMS.
  10. Complete the incident report.
