Run a lifeguard EAP for an active drowning
Practice the sequence you already learned for “Run a lifeguard EAP for an active drowning” until the order feels automatic. Drill the Ellis / Red Cross EAP order from lifeguard training. The secondary guard covers the zone before the primary leaves the stand for the water.
- Activate the EAP with the taught signal as soon as the victim is recognized.
- Point to the victim so the covering guard can take the zone.
- Confirm the covering guard has the zone before you leave the stand if staffing requires it.
- Enter with the appropriate rescue equipment.
- Perform the in-water rescue.
- Remove the victim from the water.
- Begin the trained assessment on deck.
- Give CPR or other trained care as indicated.
- Transfer care to EMS.
- Complete the incident report.
