Resuscitate a newly born using the NRP algorithm

Practice the AAP/AHA NRP order from perinatal training. Chest compressions are not started before the initial steps and effective ventilation.

  1. Warm the infant and maintain a normal temperature.
  2. Position the airway.
  3. Suction only if needed.
  4. Dry and stimulate.
  5. Start PPV if the infant is apneic or the heart rate is below 100.
  6. Apply pulse oximetry.
  7. Use MR SOPA corrective steps if the chest is not moving.
  8. Begin compressions only if the heart rate remains below 60 after effective ventilation.
  9. Prepare epinephrine per NRP if the heart rate stays below 60.
