Respond to an SPCC oil sheen on water
Practice the sequence you already learned for “Respond to an SPCC oil sheen on water” until the order feels automatic. Practice 40 CFR 110 sheen rule / 112 SPCC from facility-environmental training. The National Response Center is called for a sheen, and the drain is not flushed to “dilute it.”
- Stop the source if it is safe.
- Contain the sheen with booms or the SPCC materials.
- Notify the facility emergency coordinator.
- Call the National Response Center when a sheen reaches navigable water or the adjoining shoreline.
- Document volume, time, and weather.
- Do not wash the sheen into a storm drain.
