Respond to a hazardous-material splash using the SDS

Practice the HazCom first-response order from OSHA 1910.1200 training. People are moved and flushed first; the SDS is consulted before anyone starts cleanup.

  1. Evacuate or isolate people from the immediate splash zone.
  2. Flush exposed skin or eyes immediately at the eyewash or shower if you were splashed.
  3. Identify the product from the label without entering the plume.
  4. Retrieve the matching safety data sheet.
  5. Follow remaining first-aid measures in SDS Section 4.
  6. Don the PPE listed in SDS Section 8.
  7. Follow the spill measures in SDS Section 6.
  8. Contain the remaining spill with the approved kit.
  9. Report the incident through the site emergency number.
