Recover a person overboard

Reinforce the IMO / SOLAS MOB order from STCW training. The ship is not turned until the mark, alarm, and lookout are set.

  1. Shout "man overboard."
  2. Throw a lifebuoy with light or smoke.
  3. Mark the position, including the MOB function if equipped.
  4. Sound the MOB signal.
  5. Post a dedicated lookout pointing at the person.
  6. Notify the bridge.
  7. Execute the taught Williamson or Anderson turn.
  8. Prepare the rescue boat or recovery device.
  9. Recover the person and treat for hypothermia.
  10. Do not lose visual contact to go below for extra gear first.
