Place an involuntary psychiatric hold

Reinforce state involuntary-hold order from crisis-response training. Transport is not started until the legal criteria, the form, and the receiving facility are complete.

1. Assess danger to self, danger to others, or grave disability as the statute defines them.
2. Attempt the least-restrictive option that is still safe.
3. Complete the hold form with facts, not conclusions only.
4. Notify the receiving facility and law enforcement as required.
5. Search and secure means.
6. Transport with the taught escort.
7. Do not use a hold as punishment or because a family member is only inconvenienced.
