Place a fire-sprinkler system on impairment

Practice the sequence you already learned for “Place a fire-sprinkler system on impairment” until the order feels automatic. Drill NFPA 25 impairment from facility-fire training. Valves are not closed until the fire watch, tags, and notifications are in place.

  1. Determine which riser or zone will be out and for how long.
  2. Notify the monitoring station, AHJ, and insurance contact as required.
  3. Establish the compensatory fire watch before closing valves.
  4. Tag the control valves and fire department connections.
  5. Close only the approved valves.
  6. Drain the affected section as needed.
  7. Restore water to the system.
  8. Open the control valves.
  9. Run a main-drain or the taught restoration test.
  10. Notify the same parties that protection is restored.
  11. Remove the impairment tags.
