Place a fire-alarm system on impairment

Reinforce the NFPA 72 impairment order from facility-fire training. Detectors are not taken out of service until the fire watch and required notifications are in place.

  1. Determine the impairment scope and expected duration.
  2. Notify the monitoring station, AHJ, and site emergency contacts as required.
  3. Establish the compensatory fire watch before devices are disabled.
  4. Tag the impaired panel or devices.
  5. Disable only the approved devices.
  6. Restore the system at the end of the work.
  7. Test the restored devices for correct operation.
  8. Notify the monitoring station and AHJ that the impairment is ended.
