Perform a maintenance engine run only after the field is secured
Reinforce AMM ground-run order from aviation-maintenance training. The engine is not started until intake/exhaust zones are clear, the checklist is complete, and fire cover is ready.
- Complete the maintenance that requires the run.
- Close the panels that must be closed for the run.
- Chock the aircraft.
- Clear intake and exhaust danger zones.
- Stage a fire bottle.
- Brief the run with the person in the seat and the outside observer.
- Run the AMM checklist; do not skip to "just a leak check."
- Shut down and inspect for leaks before releasing the aircraft.
- Do not motor or start with people in the propeller or intake arc.
