Open a BSA suspicious-activity case

Practice the BSA/AML SAR order from bank-compliance training. The customer is not tipped off. The 30-day clock starts when facts supporting a filing are identified.

  1. Escalate the alert to BSA staff.
  2. Do not tell the customer a SAR is being considered.
  3. Preserve account, transaction, and communication records.
  4. Complete the investigation narrative with the five essential elements.
  5. Decide file-or-not with the designated officer.
  6. File the SAR within 30 calendar days of initial detection if required (60 if no suspect is identified).
  7. Place the account on the required monitoring.
  8. Do not disclose the filing.
  9. Retain the SAR and supporting documentation for five years.
