Move hazardous waste from a satellite accumulation area

Practice the RCRA 262.15 satellite-accumulation order. The container is dated when the 55-gallon (or acute) limit is exceeded, moved within three calendar days, and dated again at the CAA so the 90/180-day clock starts there.

  1. Confirm the container is compatible with the waste.
  2. Keep the container closed except when adding waste.
  3. Label the container “Hazardous Waste” with the contents or hazards.
  4. Keep the container at or near the point of generation under the operator’s control.
  5. When 55 gallons or the acute limit is exceeded, date that container the same day.
  6. Move the excess to the central accumulation area within three consecutive calendar days.
  7. Date the container again when it arrives at the CAA.
  8. Enter it on the accumulation-area inventory.
  9. Do not exceed the site’s 90- or 180-day clock from the CAA date.
