Make a mandated child-abuse report
Reinforce the mandated-reporter order from child-welfare training. The report is made to the designated agency first; the employer is notified after, not instead.
- Recognize a reasonable suspicion of abuse or neglect.
- Do not investigate beyond your role.
- Call the designated child-protection hotline or agency immediately.
- Give the child’s identity, location, and the facts that caused suspicion.
- Follow with the written report in the required window if the state requires one.
- Notify your supervisor after the agency report, if policy requires.
- Do not confront the alleged person.
- Do not promise the child secrecy.
