Leak-test a sealed radioactive source

Reinforce the 10 CFR 35.67 / 39.35 leak-test order. The source is not handled bare, a wipe is counted on a calibrated instrument, and a due test is not skipped because the source was unused.

1. Confirm the source inventory.
2. Confirm the test-due date.
3. Wipe the taught surfaces with the authorized person present.
4. Count the wipe on a calibrated instrument.
5. Compare to the 0.005 µCi (or license) limit.
6. If above the limit, withdraw the source and notify the RSO immediately.
7. Record the result.
8. Do not skip a due test because the source “hasn’t been used.”
