Inspect a horizontal lifeline before clipping in

Practice the sequence you already learned for “Inspect a horizontal lifeline before clipping in” until the order feels automatic. Drill the fall-protection competent-person order from construction training. A worker is not clipped to the line until the inspection, sag, and end-anchor checks pass.

  1. Confirm the system is the engineered or manufacturer's HLL for this span.
  2. Inspect wire, terminations, and energy absorbers for damage.
  3. Check end anchors for securement and damage.
  4. Confirm sag or tension is within the design.
  5. Verify each harness connector is compatible.
  6. Clip in only after the competent person accepts the line.
  7. Do not use a damaged or improvised cable as a lifeline.
