Give naloxone while supporting ventilation

Reinforce the SAMHSA / AHA opioid-overdose order. Airway and rescue breaths start before or with naloxone. Repeat dosing and recovery position are separate from staying with the person.

1. Confirm unresponsiveness.
2. Confirm inadequate breathing.
3. Call emergency services.
4. Open the airway.
5. Begin rescue breaths or bag-mask.
6. Give naloxone by the trained route.
7. Continue ventilation and reassess.
8. Repeat naloxone at the taught interval if needed.
9. Place in recovery position only when breathing is adequate.
10. Stay until EMS arrives.
