Give intramuscular epinephrine for anaphylaxis

Practice the sequence you already learned for “Give intramuscular epinephrine for anaphylaxis” until the order feels automatic. Drill the AHA / ARC first-aid anaphylaxis order. Recognize and remove the allergen as separate actions. Antihistamines are not the first drug, and a second IM dose is timed only after reassessment.

  1. Recognize anaphylaxis.
  2. Remove the ongoing allergen if it is safe to do so.
  3. Call emergency services.
  4. Give epinephrine IM in the mid-outer thigh.
  5. Place the patient supine and raise the legs unless breathing is worse flat.
  6. Reassess after the first dose.
  7. Give a second IM dose at the taught interval if signs persist.
  8. Do not substitute an antihistamine or inhaler for the first epinephrine dose.
