1. File the report at IdentityTheft.gov and save the recovery plan.
2. Place a fraud alert or a credit freeze with the bureaus.
3. Dispute the fraudulent accounts with furnishers using that report.
4. Close or replace compromised bank and card accounts.
5. Keep the report number with every later dispute.
6. Do not pay a collection on a theft account to make it go away without the plan.
