Convert a survey bearing to a grid azimuth

Practice the sequence you already learned for “Convert a survey bearing to a grid azimuth” until the order feels automatic. Drill the bearing-to-azimuth order from surveying / geomatics training. Coordinates are not computed until the quadrant, convergence, and rotation are applied in order.

  1. Read the bearing quadrant.
  2. Read the bearing angle.
  3. Convert the bearing to a north azimuth in that quadrant.
  4. Apply the mapping-angle / convergence to reach grid azimuth.
  5. Compute departure and latitude from that azimuth and the distance.
  6. Carry the coordinates to the next station.
  7. Do not mix magnetic, true, and grid in the same leg.
