Complete a consecutive-interpretation turn

Practice the court / conference consecutive order from interpreter training. The rendition is not started until the speaker has finished, and nothing is added that was not said.

  1. Position so both parties can be heard.
  2. Keep the record clear.
  3. Swear or state the interpreter role if the proceeding requires it.
  4. Listen and note while the speaker finishes the segment.
  5. Render the full meaning into the target language without addition or omission.
  6. Ask for repetition only if a segment was inaudible, not to editorialize.
  7. Stay in the first person.
  8. Do not answer for the speaker.
