Complete a Class I air-brake test

Practice the sequence you already learned for “Complete a Class I air-brake test” until the order feels automatic. Practice 49 CFR 232.205 from railroad-train-crew training. The train is not authorized to depart until the Class I test is signed and leakage is within 5 psi per minute.

  1. Charge the brake pipe to operating pressure; rear within 15 psi and not less than 75 psi.
  2. Make a 20-psi brake-pipe service reduction.
  3. Verify that brakes apply on each car.
  4. Check piston travel on each car while the brakes are applied.
  5. Confirm angle cocks and cutouts are properly positioned.
  6. Note leakage not more than 5 psi per minute, or airflow not more than 60 CFM.
  7. Release and confirm that brakes release on each car.
  8. Restore pressure.
  9. Sign the Class I record.
  10. Do not depart on an incomplete Class I test.
