Close the polls and seal the memory media

Practice the sequence you already learned for “Close the polls and seal the memory media” until the order feels automatic. Drill the EAC closing order from poll-worker training. Totals tapes are not discarded, and memory cards are not transported unsealed.

  1. At the legal closing time, announce that anyone in line may vote.
  2. Close the poll book after the last voter.
  3. Print the totals tape.
  4. Compare the totals tape to the ballot accounting sheet.
  5. Seal the memory card or paper ballot containers.
  6. Record the seal numbers.
  7. Obtain the required bipartisan signatures on the return.
  8. Transport in the two-person custody the jurisdiction requires.
  9. Do not discard the totals tapes.
  10. Do not transport memory media unsealed.
