Change a compressed-gas cylinder

Reinforce the CGA P-1 / OSHA compressed-gas order. The cylinder is secured before the cap comes off, the regulator matches that gas, and the cylinder valve is closed first at shutdown.

  1. Verify the cylinder label matches the intended gas.
  2. Secure the incoming cylinder before removing the cap.
  3. Crack the valve away from people to clear dust.
  4. Close the valve.
  5. Attach the correct regulator for that gas; do not use an adapter.
  6. Tighten the CGA fitting.
  7. Pressurize the regulator.
  8. Leak-check before opening the downstream valve.
  9. Close the cylinder valve first when finished.
  10. Bleed the regulator.
  11. Cap the empty, mark it, and chain it in the empty rack.
