Apply lockout/tagout to a zero-energy state
Practice the OSHA 1910.147 control-of-hazardous-energy order from authorized-employee training. Service starts only after isolation is verified and controls are returned to off.
- Notify affected employees that the equipment will be shut down.
- Identify the energy types, magnitudes, hazards, and control methods.
- Shut the equipment down using the normal stopping procedure.
- Isolate every energy source at the approved disconnect points.
- Apply your lock and tag to each isolation point.
- Relieve, restrain, or otherwise render stored energy safe.
- Try the start controls to verify the equipment will not operate.
- Return the operating controls to the off or neutral position.
