Apply lockout/tagout to a zero-energy state

Practice the OSHA 1910.147 control-of-hazardous-energy order from authorized-employee training. Service starts only after isolation is verified and controls are returned to off.

  1. Notify affected employees that the equipment will be shut down.
  2. Identify the energy types, magnitudes, hazards, and control methods.
  3. Shut the equipment down using the normal stopping procedure.
  4. Isolate every energy source at the approved disconnect points.
  5. Apply your lock and tag to each isolation point.
  6. Relieve, restrain, or otherwise render stored energy safe.
  7. Try the start controls to verify the equipment will not operate.
  8. Return the operating controls to the off or neutral position.
