Administer a scheduled medication using the five rights

Reinforce the five-rights sequence from medication-administration training. The dose is not given before patient and drug checks are complete, and documentation is its own closing action.

  1. Confirm the right patient using two identifiers.
  2. Confirm the right medication against the order.
  3. Confirm the right dose and calculations.
  4. Confirm the right route.
  5. Confirm the right time and any hold parameters.
  6. Administer the dose.
  7. Remain for the required observation.
  8. Document immediately after administration.
