Activate a stroke alert from last known well

Practice the AHA stroke-alert order from ED and EMS training. Imaging and the team page start from last known well, not from hospital arrival alone.

  1. Establish last known well and the time of discovery.
  2. Perform the taught stroke screen.
  3. Check blood glucose.
  4. Activate the stroke team and note the clock.
  5. Keep the patient NPO and protect the airway.
  6. Move to the designated CT without delaying for nonessential labs.
  7. Do not give anything by mouth until a swallow screen is cleared.
  8. Do not treat blood pressure until the team directs it.
